MFNE partners with Cox Rhode Races, Sunday, May 2, 2010, Providence, RI
May 2, 2010 is Rhode Race Day in Providence. On this day there will be three major road races, all sponsored by Cox Communications and partnered by a number of charities including the Melanoma Foundation of New England.
The three races on May 2 will include a full marathon, a half marathon, and a 5k, all of which offer USATF certified courses. The full marathon is the Cox Sports Marathon and is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. The half-marathon is called the Willow Tree Half Marathon, and the 5k is the Rhode Races 5k.
“This is a great chance to get out there and support the charity that really means something to you personally,” said Trish Signet, the Melanoma Foundation’s Race Coordinator. “As with most races these days, there is wonderful opportunity to raise money for a charity that’s close to your heart. Runners who sign up with us will need to commit to raising $500 for the full marathon, $250 for the half marathon, and $100 for the 5k.” Our team members will receive a website for fundraising, training and fundraising support, and a team shirt.
All races will start and finish in Kennedy Plaza in Downtown Providence. Throughout the day there will be a Health and Wellness Expo at the Providence Westin Hotel. The Foundation will have a booth at the expo, and there will be staffers on hand to give all race particpants facial scans as well as tips on how to protect yourself.
The Melanoma Foundation of New England is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the importance of early detection and prevention, and helping patients and their caregivers cope with melanoma.
