The American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the ACS has state divisions and more than 3,400 local offices. A wealth of available resources can be found at the ACS Web site, all of which are free (although registration is encouraged).
American Academy of Dermatology
The American Academy of Dermatology is the largest, most influential and most representative of all dermatologic associations. With a membership of over 13,700, it represents virtually all practicing dermatologists in the United States. At the AAD Web site, you can find a dermatologist, links to other valuable online resources and learn more about how the AAD and healthcare professionals are working to prevent and cure skin cancer.
California Skin Cancer Prevention Program
The Skin Cancer Prevention Program (SCPP) is a statewide initiative that works in cooperation with the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention to decrease future new cases of skin cancer among Californians. SCPP promotes the integration of sun-protection education materials, policies, and environmental supports (shade trees and structures) especially within entities that provide outdoor recreation or occupational pursuits. SCPP provides conference presentations and conducts media campaigns to encourage population-wide practice of sun safety behaviors.

National Council of Skin Cancer Prevention

The Melanoma Foundation of New England is a proud member of the NCSCP. The Council is comprised of 30 organizations whose staffs have experience, expertise and knowledge in the area of disease prevention and education. The National Council assists in meeting public health sun protection objectives and its activities are based on the Healthy People 2010 objective to increase the proportion of persons who use at least one of the following protective measures that may reduce the risk of skin cancer:
- Avoid the sun between 10 AM and 4 PM.
- Wear sun-protective clothing when exposed to sunlight.
- Use sunscreen with a sun protective factor (SPF) of 15 or higher.
- Avoid artificial sources of ultraviolet light.
The Skin Cancer Foundation
The Skin Cancer Foundation is another major national and international organization dedicated to education and prevention of skin cancer. Their Web site contains a wealth of information about risks, prevention, myths and more, as well as a comprehensive online store where visitors can purchase a variety of audio, video, books, clothing and other sun-safe materials.
The Sun Safety Alliance
The Sun Safety Alliance™ (SSA) is being established as a nonprofit coalition dedicated to the task of reducing the incidence of skin cancer in America. The Alliance was founded by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and Coppertone® Suncare Products.
